Important: SafeLine will never ask for your social-media password or account-recovery code. Do not send login credentials through our website, email, text, or voicemail.

Preserve the threatening messages and account identifiers

Save the username, profile URL, messages, dates, threats, payment demands and any information showing who the offender says they will contact. Preserve enough context to explain what happened before blocking or reporting, when it is safe to do so.

Secure the accounts the offender knows about

Use unique passwords, enable multi-factor authentication, review logged-in sessions and secure the email account used for recovery. Review who can see your friends, followers, tags, employer information and direct contact details.

Use the platform's built-in safety and reporting tools

Report threatening accounts, impersonation, harassment or non-consensual intimate-image threats through the affected platform's official in-app or help-center reporting process. Avoid entering your password on links sent by the person threatening you.

Reduce the blackmailer's leverage

Do not provide additional intimate material, identity documents, passwords, recovery codes or new personal information because of a deadline or threat. If money is demanded, preserve the request and payment identifiers.

Escalate dangerous threats appropriately

If threats involve immediate physical harm, stalking or another urgent safety risk, contact the emergency service or law-enforcement agency appropriate to your location. For U.S. cyber-enabled crime, FBI IC3 is an official reporting option.

How to stop sextortion on Facebook

Preserve the threats and profile information, reduce unnecessary visibility of your friends and personal details, report the account or conversation through Facebook's official reporting tools, and block when appropriate after preserving needed evidence. If the threat involves immediate danger, use local law enforcement or emergency services rather than relying only on the platform.
